Pharmacy is the science and technique of preparing as well as dispensing drugs and medicines. It is a health profession that links health sciences with chemical sciences and aims to ensure the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs.

The scope of pharmacy practice includes more traditional roles such as compounding and dispensing medications, and it also includes more modern services related to health care, including clinical services, reviewing medications for safety and efficacy, and providing drug information. Pharmacists, therefore, are the experts on drug therapy and are the primary health professionals who optimize use of medication for the benefit of the patients. Pharmacists form an integral part of the patient care team.

Note: IEC’s pharmacy currently only serves in-patients.

Pediatrics (also spelled paediatrics or pædiatrics) is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents, and the age limit usually ranges from birth up to 18 years.

Note: All pediatric cases are for in-patient long term care services only.

Clinical nutrition incorporates primarily the scientific fields of nutrition and dietetics. It aims to keep a healthy energy balance in patients, as well as providing sufficient amounts other nutrients such as protein, vitamins, and minerals.

A patient’s dietary needs are studied on a case to case basis and forms part of the patient care plan. Based on the needs of the patients, various food and supplement options are suggested and route of administration decided. Among the routes of administration, the preferred means of nutrition is, if possible, oral administration. Alternatives include enteral administration (in nasogastric feeding) and intravenous (in parenteral nutrition).

Dental care is the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums, and prevention of dental caries, gum disease and other dental disorders.

The best way to maintain oral hygiene is to brush your teeth twice daily, after waking up in the morning and before going to bed at night, avoiding tobacco and its by-products, refraining from smoking, cleaning mouth with water after every meal or snack, and using miswak as frequently as possible. Our beloved prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) advised us to use miswak for good and healthy teeth and gums because of its therapeutic properties.

Currently dental services are only available for in-patients however IEC is working diligently on providing these services to out-patients in the near future.
